It was a busy meeting with a very full agenda, but we moved things along very smoothly. Here's a summary of what happened.

Election for VP East

Justin George put forth his candidacy to fill the vacant seat for VP of East Sector. He was elected by unanimous vote. With his election, the PPNA Board is now totally filled for the first time in over 15 years (possibly longer. Nobody actually remembers the last time every slot on the Board was filled).

Baltimore Police Department and Federal Consent Decree

Danielle Butcher presented on the ongoing process of the Baltimore Police Department enacting reforms under the federal consent decree. Danielle is Community Policing Compliance Manager for the Baltimore Police Department’s Consent Decree Implementation Unit (it is worth noting that she is not a police officer herself).

Her presentation is linked below.

A few things to note: there is no timeline on getting out of the consent decree. It will be done when a judge deems that all aspects of the department have come into compliance. Danielle noted that other federal consent decrees for city police departments have taken an average of ten years.

New Mural and Community Art with Maria G. Aldana

Maria G. Aldana is an artist whose work explores queer and Latine spaces. At the meeting, she presented on her previous work and the grant that she won to set up a mural at Fayette and Lakewood.

You can look at her presentation below.

This process is still ongoing and Maria is gathering community feedback for the mural. If you would like to get involved, you can contact her at Maria@artofsolidarity.org.

Immigrant Defense

Rob Mundy has been working tirelessly on organizing our neighbors to resist the illegal operations of ICE and defend our immigrant neighbors. If you would like to get involved, there's an opportunity next Monday, April 21.

(The Cedar House is the new building in Patterson Park near the white house on the west side)

Community Announcements and Updates

We put out a call for someone else to host the community compost bin. A neighbor did step up, and we are very grateful to her!

Speaking of community bins, our Community Cleanup and Dumpster will be at the intersection of Pulaski and Kenwood (north of Library Square) on May 3. Be there, get rid of your junk, and help clean up the environment!
